1. Cleaning first. Use a brake cleaner to clean off the older grease. Do not ever use compressed air for this. The bearings should be smooth and the finish should be consistent when you run your fingers through them. If you see any bluing or hotspots, or any other damage, then you must get those bearing replaced.

2. Get a bearing packing tool which makes the process easier. All you then have to do is place the bearings between the discs force grease between the races of the bearing. You can even use a grease gun for this purpose.

3. Keep rotating the bearings and scooping grease till it oozes from all the openings and has completely covered the bearings and the races.

4. Insert a brand new cotter pin and replace the dust cover.
